As per the CPR rules, you may need a certificate to present in proceedings which confirms you have undertaken mediation and attempted to resolve the dispute. 

An introductory conference for mediation serves as the initial meeting where all parties come together to understand the mediation process, establish ground rules, and set expectations. The mediator outlines their neutral role, explains confidentiality protocols, and invites each party to briefly share their perspective. This session lays the foundation for constructive dialogue, encourages mutual respect, and helps identify key issues to be addressed in future discussions.

A virtual introductory conference is a perfect option for those who would much prefer to conduct the mediation virtually. This setting can help expediate the process and be a cost effective option in comparison to 'In person'. The format is the same as in-person, with the Principal Mediator explaining the process, establishing ground rules and identifying key issues which require addressing. 

How the day unfolds will differ depending on the complexity and nature of the dispute. However, parties can expect the following throughout the day: Introduction and Ground Rules, Opening Statements, Joint Discussions, Private Sessions with parties individually. There is usually a pause for lunch followed by an afternoon of option generating, bargaining and drafting of an agreement binding the parties. The pace will be dictated by progress on the issues.
